ANNOUNCEMENT

As a result of demand and slot availability due to funding, the Alabama Department of Human Resources (DHR) must implement a wait list for Child Care Assistance effective immediately.

All new applications received on or after May 8, 2026, will be placed on the wait list until further notice. As slots become available, they will be filled from the wait list on a first-come, first-serve basis.

New applications will continue to be accepted for families who fall within one of the priority categories, including:

• Protective Services
• Foster Care
• DHR Early Head Start
• TANF – Other Relative
• Transitional families (within 30 days of ending TANF benefits)
• JOBS

Families who are currently receiving child care assistance must continue to meet all eligibility and program participation requirements in order to remain active in the program. Failure to meet these requirements may result in termination of assistance and placement on the wait list.

Requirements include, but are not limited to:

• Participation in an allowable activity such as employment, school, or training
• Maintaining income at or below the current published eligibility thresholds
• Proper use of the mobile attendance application
• No instances of intentional fraud
